A repeat of the 2017 art project to raise awareness for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) through (performance) art launched by professional artists but this time with a twist and maybe a shout. It continues until it stops so more work will be added along the way.

One year ago my old classical dance teacher Anil van der Zee approached some old students to use their powers as a voice to create resistance against a lack of ears, eyes and voices but more importantly, help! for this debilitating neuroimmune disease As a human being i can onderstand that there will be moments and situations where your environment or even your body! doesn’t concede you to be you and make you feel locked inside of your own body. while something or someone else has control of the wheel. it would be frustrating so with this in mind i tried to create in my own way how i would feel. Images where the colours are the reflections and beauty from the person inside. And maybe if you would see me (see my colours) you wouldn’t forget about me. By Medea van Schijndel May 12th – ME awareness day. Since I’m predominantly bed-bound but refuse to become invisible by this disease, or let my story be told with the wrong ideas about ME, I figured maybe I should join the #MillionsMissing events today with a drawing of my utterly crashed and naked self. In the absence of other means to properly communicate, last year I attempted to make an expression of how this illness forces me into seclusion, but I never got to finish it as I became too freaking ill. Because music is often too much to process for my hyperacusic brain, leaving me in a PEM-crash after listening, I want to bring to the attention Anil’s awareness campaign in silence. However, as it represents one of my most debilitating symptoms (which put me at risk of disappearing from the outside world and into the wrong story), I want to title this drawing after one of Bear McCreary’s songs from Unrest: “No thoughts, no words.” With this post I wish to transform silence into action.
May is ME awareness month. ME is a disease that effect millions adults and children worldwide, whereby you’re becoming ill after exertion. Therefore most people nearly come outside, (out of bed). For some social interaction is not possible. You feel constantly physically ill and exhausted, tough it is still labeled as ‘mental tiredness’ in the medical world. This should get way more attention and research than it gets now, as there a millions of people we literally never see. This month artists post their work to create awareness. Sending a special kiss and hug to my amazing and very brave Anil, ex-ballet dancer and teacher and the warmest human being you can imagine. We are there with you. Want to know more, donate or join our movement (literally)? You have still a few days to create. http://anilvanderzee.com/timeforunrest/ #millionsmissing #art2cureME #undauerme Pictures: Edward Hermans
